On 08 June, Chevron held a face-to-face workshop for 52 students from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC). The event marked the closing of the second class of the Safety Practices in the Oil & Gas Industry online course. The course was developed and administered by Chevron as part of the University Partnership Program (UPP), a global program of the company with investments in more than 100 institutions around the world.
"This academic partnership has as its main mission to support the training of future Brazilian engineers and bring them closer to the Oil and Gas market. It is also an example of our Chevron Philosophy, which values the construction of collaborative relationships with the communities where the company operates" , explains Chevron Brasil HR Manager Carla Uchoa.
The closure workshop, suggested by the students of the first class completed in December 2016, was developed and conducted by Chevron Brazil's Supervisor of Safety & Operational Excellence, Marcio Rangel. The objective was to provide an opportunity for interaction with Chevron HES professionals with a more hands-on approach to Safety in the Oil and Gas Industry.
Paula Pedras, HR OperationsTeam Lead, participated in the development and implementation of the course in partnership with the PUC team of teachers. "The online course has been a great success. When the entries for the second class were opened in April 2017, about 200 students from various engineering courses enrolled. The expectation now is for the next group, already formed, to start in the second half of this year", she explains.
Chevron Brasil's partnership with PUC began in 2011. Some of the projects carried out involved the sponsorship of the laboratories of the University's Technical and Scientific Center (CTC-PUC) - one for the preparation of rock samples and the other for mechanical tests of rock, both with the latest technology available in the country. Throughout this period, the company has also awarded several scholarships for Engineering undergraduate students and provided the development of projects with mentoring of Chevron professionals and supervised internships.
